Xanax Abuse, Detox and Treatment
Xanax Abuse, Detox, and Treatment in NJ
Xanax is a prescription medication, which is classified as a benzodiazepine. Prescribed to alleviate anxiety and panic attacks, Xanax works by inhibiting the processes in the brain that cause irregular excitement. When used properly and under medical supervision, Xanax can be a very effective relaxant. However, Xanax abuse occurs when an individual uses the drug without a prescription or beyond a doctor’s recommended dosage or time frame. When taken in greater doses over an extended period of time, it is not uncommon for Xanax users to develop a dependency on the drug. An individual may experience constant thoughts about obtaining more or experience physical withdrawal when they stop taking Xanax. The effects of Xanax abuse are physical, mental, emotional, and social, creating a strain on the life of the individual and on their relationships with those around them. Abuse of Xanax and other tranquilizers is steadily on the rise, affecting over 5 million people in the U.S. each year. Detox and treatment options are available for those struggling with Xanax abuse and have been shown to effectively assist in breaking this cycle of addiction.
Detox Treatment in NJ Following Xanax Abuse
While Xanax abuse is a growing problem, the number of individuals seeking detox treatment following addiction is also increasing. Detox, or detoxification, is the removal of a toxic or harmful substance from the body. Following Xanax abuse, detox treatment involves abstaining from use of the drug in order to rid the body of it entirely. Detox can be a particularly difficult process on the body, as withdrawal symptoms from Xanax abuse are often difficult to withstand. While an individual can pursue detox independently from home, it is recommended that they undergo this process in a medical facility. Professionals will be able to ensure that the detox treatment is done safely and may also provide an individual medication to offset symptoms of withdrawal, such as irritability, anxiety, and sleep disturbance. Ambulatory detox is an option offered by GenPsych, which is available to individuals struggling with addiction in NJ. GenPsych’s Ambulatory Detox program provides transportation, care, and education to individuals beginning the detox process. For more information on GenPsych’s Ambulatory Detox program, click here.
