May is Mental Health Month: Local Resource Stresses the Importance of Overall Wellness

Mental Wellness is Essential to Leading a Full and Productive Life

Bridgewater, N.J.(May 02, 2013) – May marks National Mental Health Month. This year’s theme, “Pathways to Wellness,” calls attention to strategies and approaches that help all Americans achieve wellness and overall health. While conditions like depression are common – roughly 1 in 5 Americans have a mental health condition – They are extremely treatable. In order to raise awareness and to build public recognition around the role that mental health plays in overall health, GenPsych, PC, provider of top quality outpatient psychiatric and substance abuse services, is observing Mental Health Month with a May 21 2013 open house at its Bridgewater, NJ location. The public is invited, free of charge, to learn more about how to maintain mental wellness, how to recognize when it’s time to seek professional help, and what local resources are available for support.

“Just as we check our blood pressure and get cancer screenings, it’s a good idea to take periodic stock of our emotional well-being.” said Dr. Henry Odunlami, Founder and CEO of GenPsych, P.C. “One recent study advised a mental health check-up as often as you get a physical, and many doctors routinely screen for mental health. Wellness is as much about keeping healthy as getting healthy”

Stress is a risk for everyone given the demands it brings and the challenges in the workplace and at home. However, there are steps that maintain well-being and help everyone achieve wellness. These involve a balanced diet, regular exercise, enough sleep, a sense of self-worth, development of coping skills that promote resiliency, emotional awareness, and connections to family, friends and the community.

The Bridgewater open house will be held on May 21, 2013 from 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm at GenPsych (981 Route 22 West Bridgewater, NJ 08807) and lunch will be provided. GenPsych’s staff of experts will discuss the importance of mental wellness and the cutting-edge programs, groups, and other resources available to both adolescents and adults. If you’re interested in attending to meet the staff and hear about all the programs offered, please RSVP to (908) 231-0511 extension 128.
