TMS Therapy System

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation

Neurostar TMS Therapy is a 40 minute outpatient procedure that is performed under the supervision of a psychiatrist. It does not require anesthesia or sedation and patients remain awake and alert during the procedure. Treatment is typically administered five days a week, for four to six weeks, usually totaling 20-30 treatments. The magnetic field is the same type and strength as those produced by a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machine. TMS Therapy does not cause the side effects commonly associated with Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT).

In 2008, following extensive research studies conducted worldwide, with over 10,000 TMS therapy treatments performed, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration cleared the NeuroStar TMS Therapy System, offered by Neuronetics, for clinical use within adults suffering for major depression who have not benefited from prior antidepressant treatment.

Neurostar TMS Therapy is indicated for the treatment of major depressive disorder in adult patients who have failed to achieve satisfactory improvement from one prior antidepressant medication at or above the minimal effective dose and duration in the current episode.
